Location: Gatwick, GB

Company: Civil Aviation Authority

Salary: Up to £55,000 dependant upon skills and experience

Contract Type: Full time, permanent

We are the UK's aviation regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Role

The CAA is looking for an Aerodrome Inspector to join our AAA (Airspace, ATM & Aerodrome) business unit. The role’s primary function is the oversight of aerodrome operators, operations and service providers and works within our “field force”. This will often involve travelling to a network of licensed and certified aerodromes and conducting audits of their activity. This includes working with industry partners to define the risk profile of each location against certain safety criteria before communicating your findings and determinations to the relevant parties.

As an Aerodrome Inspector you will interact with a variety of people, perspectives, processes, and technologies. If you are the kind of person who thrives in an environment of fast paced change and innovation, then this role will put you at the forefront of groundbreaking and exciting industry developments. Your function, within this landscape, will be to evaluate any, and all, operational changes to ensure they are thoroughly considered from a risk and safety perspective. Experience in airfield operations, safety management or risk assessment is vital to maintain a clear perspective while enabling you to contextualise what these developments functionally mean.

As a regulator we must partner with the industry to help build and embed safety. This means working with them, and the wider CAA, in a collaborative way to make sure that problems are accurately understood, solutions are developed, and assumptions are challenged. It is unlikely that you alone will have all the answers when faced with such a wide range of technical subject matter and being open to and respectful of different perspectives is key. With that said, you must always remember that you are the authority in these matters and must be prepared to take enforcement action when it is deemed vital.

About You

  • Experience as an operations, safety or fire and rescue management professional in an aerodrome environment
  • A proven understanding of the regulatory frameworks that underpin aerodrome operations as well as the human factors that might impact them
  • An understanding of safety management systems
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organisational capability, with an ability to work independently while also working as part of a wider team

What Can We Offer You?

The opportunity to work with a dynamic part of the UK aviation sector. Aerodromes are ever evolving, with new technologies driving continued growth and operational progress. This role is instrumental in providing guidance and regulatory oversight to ensure that safety standards are maintained whilst encouraging innovation and continuous improvement. Additionally, the role works on behalf of the public to ensure that their safety is always a key consideration. If that duty inspires you then this is an excellent opportunity to act on their behalf.
