The Role

As the AAA (Airspace, ATM & Aerodrome) Policy Manager you will be one of the leaders of safety policy decision making in the CAA. The aim of the role is to ensure the AAA department clearly understands its strategic policy priorities and what the most effective steps to achieving those are. This will require someone who can not only think about the big picture but who is also adaptive, forward-thinking and most importantly skilled at bringing others on the journey with them. Leading, encouraging confidence and always acting with tactful diplomacy are invaluable skills to possess in this ever-developing landscape.

Acting as part of the Senior Leadership of AAA, you will hold responsibility for a wide variety of policy functions namely, Aerodromes, Airspace, ATM (Air Traffic Management), CNS (Communication, Navigation, Surveillance), MET (Meteorological), AIM (Aeronautical Information Management) and Spectrum. The key to ensuring the coordination of these highly skilled areas is the ability to lead and effectively delegate responsibility. Furthermore, to ensure that the department can deliver on its strategic mandates you need to be able to draw out the best in your technical resource by promoting a pragmatic, agile and collaborative environment.

About You

  • Someone with a strong background in the aviation industry and a deep appreciation of the regulatory practices that underpin it
  • Potentially holds some form of ATM certification or with relevant experience in any of the policy areas in the function
  • Someone who is used to handling change in a fast paced and deeply technical environment
  • Demonstratable management experience and a track record for developing and influencing others
  • An excellent communicator with an ability to appreciate and lead disparate and potentially divergent points of view
  • Strong, confident and self-assured negotiator with a pragmatic sense of what can be realistically achieved
