We are the UK's aviation and aerospace regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Role

We’re looking for an Engagement and Consultation Airspace Regulator to join our friendly and hard-working team. Your focus will be to work closely with and oversee, a change sponsor’s engagement and consultation work for permanent and temporary airspace change proposals (ACPs).

One of your main responsibilities will be to undertake assessment of a sponsor’s engagement and consultation activities/output to determine if the requirements of the CAA’s airspace change process, CAP1616, have been met. To achieve this, you will validate the evidence in the submission, assessing the quality of the materials and looking for evidence of effective two-way engagement.

In line with the airspace change process requirements, you’ll assess the change sponsors approach and methodology, review the suitability of their stakeholder identification, materials and communications. You’ll also assess the outcome of their consultation and provide key inputs to the CAA’s regulatory decision-making process.

You’ll provide advice and guidance to the CAA and industry on engaging and consulting with diverse audiences covering a broad range of interests, including specialist aviation stakeholders and communities potentially impacted by the ACP.

The successful candidate will work closely with our Account Managers, Technical, Environmental and Economic Regulators, whilst also maintaining close working relationships with colleagues in our Communications Department on all airspace related matters.

You will also work with various internal and external stakeholders, government, and the wider aviation industry, so a strong ability to effectively communicate is required for success in this role.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a good understanding of engagement and consultation best practice and guidance and can apply this knowledge to assess the effectiveness of engagement and consultation strategy.
  • Has the ability to provide evidence-based assessment against established process, requirements and guidance.
  • Can become a subject matter expert on our airspace change processes with a strong ability to provide guidance on the engagement and consultation aspects of airspace change following CAP1616 airspace change process.
  • Has keen attention to detail and the ability to assimilate and assess large volumes of material to set deadlines simultaneously across a number of projects.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills both written and verbal, being able to translate complex information for non-technical audiences.
  • Can develop strong, constructive relationships with contacts throughout the CAA and externally, thereby providing efficient delivery and effective stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrates a high level of commitment, reliability, and flexibility, while being an excellent teammate.
  • Existing knowledge of the CAA, UK aviation industry and an awareness of air traffic control regulatory bodies and air traffic management technologies is desirable.
  • Ideally, has an awareness of the environmental impact of aviation strategies and actions to mitigate these, knowledge of the CAA’s obligations and the implications of these on the ACP.

What Can We Offer You?

This is a unique, varied, and interesting role, and a fantastic opportunity to join the CAA at an exciting time. You’ll work in a dynamic environment – no ACP submission and assessment are the same as the last. You’ll regularly interact with the wider team, gaining their input from a technical, economic, and environmental perspective. This will enable you to gain exposure of other related areas and to develop a broad understanding beyond the engagement and consultation space. At times you’ll also work on high profile changes, some of which are being progressed through a coordinated programme of modernisation of the UK’s airspace and may at times be required to support the CAA’s engagement with MPs and at the government level.
