We are the UK's aviation regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Role

Airworthiness is at the heart of the CAA and the service we provide, not only aviation but, to the public in general. The department works with industry partners to ensure that aircraft, and associated technologies, are operating to world-class safety standards.

To this end, we are currently recruiting for a number of Airworthiness Surveyors to own the Performance Based Regulatory Oversight of approved airworthiness organisations and individuals. You will deliver outcome focussed oversight that applies Performance Based Oversight principles and meets statutory compliance obligations. As well as this, you may carry out project work or deliver training as through the CAA's consultancy arm, CAAi.

Additionally, it will be your role to establish relationships with and influence industry partners and senior post holders to continually improve safety performance, risk and compliance. This will require you to regularly travel across the UK and occasionally overseas.

As a department we collaborate and work flexibly to support the work of our colleagues within Airworthiness and other areas of the CAA. It's this spirit of partnership and teamwork that allows us to rise to the challenge and foster an encouraging work environment.

About You

  • You will have extensive industry experience in Production, Maintenance or the Management of aircraft/components and hold either a Part-66 License or an appropriate engineering degree or equivalent.
  • We are looking for a good communicator with the ability to evaluate, analyse and ensure compliance against safety objectives whilst remaining flexible and proportional in your approach.
  • You need a good knowledge of regulatory rules coupled with personal attributes to engage and be influential within the CAA and with industry. Given the level of influencing and negotiation that the role requires, management experience would be a distinct advantage.
  • You should be familiar with regulatory requirements such as the Air Navigation Order, BCARs, EASA Regulations and advisory material.
  • Your experience of Quality Management Systems will be matched by a good grasp of IT and Safety Management Systems used within aviation.

What can we offer you?

Wherever possible, we offer flexible and variable working hours to help our people effectively manage all areas of their lives. We are an equal opportunity employer and actively encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds. As a member of the Disability Confident scheme, applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a role with us will be guaranteed an interview. We use fair and inclusive selection approaches to hire the best person for the job based on merit alone. If you require an adjustment for any reason, please let us know.

We offer a range of phenomenal benefits such as flexible working arrangements, free onsite gym, 28 days annual leave, a competitive pension scheme and much more.

Additional Information

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. This can either be 3 years or 5 years depending on the level required (CTC or SC). If you do not meet these requirements, we may not be able to accept your application. For more information please visit - Vetting explained - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Given the impact of Covid-19, it’s likely that you will work remotely to begin with as we plan for a return to work within the government guidelines.

Working With Us

It also means that you may become involved in activities that take you out of your day to day role, providing you with opportunities to develop and grow your career with us.

We have embraced hybrid working and offer flexible working patterns, being open to having a conversation about what works for you. We know where and when we work is important in achieving a work-life balance.
