The Role


The Safety and Airspace Regulation Group (SARG) is the key technical directorate here at the CAA. SARG is made up of several departments including Airworthiness. Airworthiness covers a range of duties but primarily focusses on the oversight and approval of engineering licenses, maintenance programmes, aircraft equipment and design organisations. To this end, we’re looking for a number of forward-thinking and dedicated individuals to work with us as Technical Officers. If you are passionate about the aviation industry or have a keen interest in Aerospace engineering, then we want to hear from you. As a Technical Officer you will assist in the interface between our customers and our surveyors. This is achieved by the effective capturing of customer requirements and their translation into relevant actions for our technical staff. Additionally, you be an integral part of the operational planning and delivery process by ensuring that all associated administration is completed in good time and to a high standard.

About You


  • A good standard of education to GCSE level (or equivalent) in core subjects of English, Sciences and Mathematics.
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of UK regulations & certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of the CAA’s statutory role and responsibilities and the ability to convey this to external parties. Ability to investigate and reach justified conclusions in partnership with airworthiness surveyor.
  • Able to produce reports to specified standards and time scales.
  • Sound communication skills to be able to advise industry and colleagues with confidence.
  • The ability to demonstrate a good understanding the CAA airworthiness procedures and processes

Many appointments within the CAA require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holder must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.


To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken.
