The Role


The Medical Policy Advisor role provides support to the Head of Medical Policy, senior medical managers and the MCT medical assessors to deliver the tasks relating to the MCT medical policy functions divided into 3 key areas:

  • Provision of policy and guidance material for the certification of medical certificate holders (Pilots, their doctors, AMEs and Medical Assessors)
  • Provision of medical policy, opinions, and advice to internal and external stakeholders
  • Delivery of the Medical Regulatory Safety Management System


About You


This role requires as sound understanding of the CAA safety policy and procedures, an understanding of how science and medical policy is underpinned by research and audit, excellent organisation and communication skills, and the ability to prioritise and to be effective in delivering task outcomes.


  • Sound understanding of the principles of safety regulation and the CAA’s RSMS
  • Ability to understand the internal safety processes and policy questions within CAA Medical
  • Knowledge and experience of how the practice science and medicine is informed by research
  • Able to assist in searching for scientific and medical published information
  • Willingness / ability to learn and apply new skills and new scientific / regulatory information to practice
  • Proven ability to support and communicate (medical) technical decisions and policy on a wide range of safety issues
  • Able to operate in a business delivery environment, including use of business management and reporting systems.
  • Capable of using experience and making sound judgements, but also to think innovatively in seeking solutions
  • Capable of making timely and appropriate decisions, with ability to identify when to refer issues to their Line Manager and others as appropriate
  • Ability to manage multiple complex problems/challenges, with the appropriate level of support.
  • Able to challenge information, propositions, or assumptions, often of a deep technical nature and across a range of medical, regulatory, and administrative functions, affecting safety.
  • Ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders

The team uses industry specific software systems and support for personal development including training on these software packages will be available. E.g. PENTANA, BowTie XP, Data analysis packages.


Additional Information


Given the impact of Covid-19, it’s likely that you will work 3 out of 5 days in the office and working remotely the remaining 2 days – all equipment will be provided.
