The Role

In line with ICAO direction and as part of the Global Air Navigation Plan, it is the CAA’s responsibility to ensure that any policy, regarding Performance Based Navigation, being developed meets both national and international airspace requirements. To this end, the CAA are seeking an experienced performance-based navigation specialist to tackle the role of Technical Lead for PBN Implementation.

 

A strong prior understanding of PBN and its component parts is key to success in this role. These include, airborne navigation system requirements, flight operating procedures, navigation infrastructure e.g., GNSS and its augmentations, aircraft certification and approvals.

 

The primary focus of the role is the drafting, development, evaluation, preparation and presentation of navigation policy. As well as this, you will be asked to provide experienced opinion and advice on PBN matters to the wider business, our industrial partners as well as Government Departments. This will mean that you will need to be positioned at the heart of this technical subject matter area and will effectively act as the UK’s subject matter authority on PBN issues. To achieve this, you will be required to attend, contribute toward, and work to influence the direction of national and international industrial groups, forums and events.

 

About You

  • Possess a wide-range of experience and knowledge of aviation matters relevant to aircraft navigation capability and airspace navigation requirements linked to operations conducted using both Performance-based Navigation (PBN) techniques and Precision Approach and Landing Systems.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of modern aircraft avionics in the civil CNS/ATM industry and an appreciation of new technologies, operational and institutional initiatives, and their application.
  • Can demonstrate a detailed understanding of navigation equipment design standards, specifications and operating techniques for modern commercial aircraft.
  • Possess a detailed knowledge of technologies linked to navigation infrastructure e.g., GNSS and its augmentations.
  • An understanding of UK ATM and associated route spacing requirements and procedures.
  • Experience in developing requirements and guidance material supporting ICAO SARPS and Manuals and/or regulatory approvals.
  • Experience in both chairing and participating in meetings with particular regard to international meetings
