The Role
The role of Test & Evaluation (T&E) Associate sits within the T&E function of the Future Safety and Innovation (FS&I) department. FS&I was established to deliver the large programmes of change that are required to enable innovations in the UK to be realised. The main objective of the T&E Team is to ensure the environment for testing is evolving and matures in line with the needs of innovators. Through this, the CAA hopes to enable a robust pathway to scalable operations.
As the T&E Associate, you will support the effective management of data and information, processes, procedures, data framework structures and relationships with external organisations and internal colleagues. This role is perfect for someone coming from a project coordination or PMO analytics background who has an interest in working with emerging aviation technologies. The role requires that the post holder have experience in the development, preparation and reporting of data as well as general project coordination and administration.
Core Accountabilities
- To develop, enhance and manage the Case Management Tool used to monitor Innovation Sandbox trials. These trials cover themes like Beyond Visual Line of Sight drone flights, Advanced Air Mobility and Net Zero
- Provide regular Management Information to senior executives to demonstrate progress, highlight risks and issues, and the mitigations required to ensure timely delivery of projects
- Work closely with the Data Manager and Innovators to help capture the appropriate data required to progress the development of Policy and Regulation to enable these technologies to enter the market safely and securely
- Apply tools and techniques for data acquisition, analysis and data visualisation
- Identify, analyse, and interpret trends in data sets to deliver business insight
- Iteration of test flight data capture methods, and analysis of information collected to disseminate to relevant CAA stakeholders
- Summarise and present data and conclusions to deliver insightful and accurate information in the most appropriate format to a range of stakeholders. This could include external requests from industry, DfT, or other interested parties
- Identify existing industry forums appropriate for test and evaluation activities and, where necessary, establish or expand forums for relevant industry inputs
- Take ownership of set pieces of work, this includes shaping, developing and delivering outputs
- Maintaining effective relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders
- Liaising directly with stakeholders to ensure the effective flow of information, including managing the receipt and (where appropriate) publication of reports from industry delivery groups
- Build strong internal networks with stakeholders across the CAA’s business and the participating Innovators progressing through Sandbox trials to ensure swift resolution of any issues arising
- Assisting colleagues in their task of overseeing and tracking the work of delivery groups including their progress against their plans
- Working closely with colleagues from Communications and Engagement Team to regularly publish updates on progress of T&E delivery
- Writing reports to a publishable standard. For example, a report to present insight and learnings to industry on the test and evaluation activities from the previous year
- Produce performance dashboards and reports in visualisation and model building phase
About You
To be considered for the role you must have:
Essential
- Experience with producing performance dashboards and reports in visualisation and model building phase
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with internal colleagues and a range of external stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills including written communications, with the ability to take technical material and turn it into plain and clear language
- Effective time management skills
- Excellent listening skills
- Proven experience in managing meeting agendas and taking faithful minutes during complex meetings and discussions
- Skilled in the use of standard Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Logical and methodical approach to work with strong attention to detail
Desirable
- Experience of working with databases would be advantageous as would experience or exposure to data analysis tools/languages
- Experience in managing projects and administrative tasks, tracking progress against milestones
- Practical experience of working collaboratively with others across multi-disciplinary and multi-agency groups
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint
- Show appetite to develop domain knowledge to contribute to the development of the Test & Evaluation function
Additional Information
For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role this will need to be 3 years.
