The Role

As an Aviation Security Regulation Expert Advisor for Cargo, it will be your role to support the CAAs wider mission to provide expertise, mentorship and general assistance to our governmental and industrial partners. In essence, this means utilizing an analytical approach to define the impact, or potential risks, associated with an action and what options are available and communicate them in each instance. This insight will be primarily drawn from your interpretation of the National Aviation Security Programme (NASP) framework.


In this role, you will need to take a fundamentally risk-based assessment approach to the provision of advice. To this end, being able to effectively communicate often nuanced and multifaceted points is a crucial skill. You will be, in coordination with legal professionals, responsible for the production of written, data driven, reports that will advise key policy decisions. Furthermore, being aware of how to effectively evidence these reports through the utilization of supporting materials, as well as leveraging of your professional networks, will be at the core of ensuring the success of the department.


Additionally, the role will see you regularly conversing, advising and analyzing reports from various sector partners from a variety of backgrounds and walks of life. This may even require you to speak at industry events, forums or deliver training. These activities will take place not only in the UK but also occasionally overseas and so you should feel confident in public speaking. As well as this, a proven ability to engage with your audience to bring them on the journey with you is key as you might have to explain sophisticated concepts or nuanced scenarios. Having a strong understanding of how you build positive relationships is a real bonus and will serve you well in delivering this aspect of the role.


To effectively handle your requirements, a project driven approach as well as an appreciation of how regulatory policy is defined, developed and delivered is a must. This background will be especially useful in ensuring that the wider matrix team has a clear view on the project requirements and their personal responsibilities.


About You

  • An understanding of the policy development process, particularly in a highly regulated industrial segment
  • A solid background in project management and delivery, preferably with some understanding of a formal project management methodology
  • An analytical mind set with a proven track record in drawing and building upon key insight
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in combination with an engaging, open and constructive demeanour
  • A methodical approach with excellent attention to detail
  • Able to build long lasting, positive relationships
  • An insatiable appetite for developing your own knowledge and expertise
