Apply now »

Date: 11-Jan-2022

Location: London, GB

Company: Civil Aviation Authority

Salary: £52,109 up to £65,000 dependant upon experience

Contract Type: Permanent, open to part time

We are the UK's aviation regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Role

As part of our responsibility to ensure that the rights of aviation consumers are protected and continuously improved the CAA operates a Consumer Panel. This group of consumer experts works together to provide a multifaceted perspective on key aviation consumer issues. The findings of this panel go on to help advise policy as well as challenge our thinking as an organisation.

To this end we’re looking for a Consumer Panel Manager and Policy Principal to lead in the governance of the panel, its outputs, associated processes and deliverables. Additionally, this role will help ensure that value is being derived from discussions and that these are translated into meaningful policy decisions.

This is a phenomenal role for someone who possesses not only strong internal governance skills and experience, but who also has a real passion for consumer rights. You will work with nationally renowned consumer experts and help address some of the most pressing consumer issues in aviation today. You will partner closely with the panel to ensure accountability, drawing out key insights and enabling consensus where possible, as well as presenting and representing the panels perspectives to the wider business. To this end, you should seek to develop positive relationships with a wide variety of partners while also often challenging them and driving evidence based decision making.

About You

  • Minimum of Graduate level educated or equivalent experience
  • ‘Advanced-expert’ level of knowledge, skills and proficiency in a field relevant to consumer protection
  • Experience of managing a consumer panel or providing board secretariat would be an advantage
  • Possession of, or proven ability to develop, thorough, detailed and up-to-date knowledge of consumer law and applied consumer policy
  • Experience of working in a regulatory and/or compliance-based environment
  • Highly developed communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly, including to senior colleagues
  • Strong drafting skills and the ability to bring together sophisticated and technical arguments and analysis in a structured, accessible and analytically thorough way
  • Strong consultation skills, with an ability to broker a position between parties that everyone can sign up to

What Can We Offer You?

This is a truly unique chance to be at the heart of consumer based decision making in the aviation industry. It is perfect for someone who is passionate about consumer protection or aviation, enjoys working with a diverse set of ideas and perspectives and has strong organisational and consultation skills. This role also offers you an unparalleled opportunity to grow your network as you will often interact with highly influential industry thought leaders and technical experts.
