At the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), we’re the UK’s independent aviation regulator. We oversee and regulate all aspects of civil aviation, ensuring the highest safety standards. With many responsibilities and areas of expertise, we offer some exceptionally exciting roles. The Government has identified its intention for the CAA to become the new home for the Space Regulator. Space is a new domain for the CAA, so we are looking to develop an experienced team to regulate future space activities, from constellations to launch.

As the Space Engineering Manager you will take on the function of ‘Chief Engineer’ and be responsible for the delivery of key departmental engineering processes, namely engineering assurance, assessment and analysis of all licensee space activity permissions. This role is essential to not only the CAA’s future development but the entire UKs national interests. It will support this by ensuring that the nation meets its requirements under the Space Industry Act (SIA), Outer Space Act (OSA) and Air Navigation Order (ANO) in all its space-based endeavours. These responsibilities go to the very heart of future UK government policy and therefore need someone who is experienced in managing a variety of obligations, including financial liability as well as compliance and monitoring activity.

Its function will not only shape how a cutting-edge industry grows but also acts as a safeguard for the public and their interests. However, these challenges aren’t just limited to engineering assessment activity and will require someone who can weave themselves into the very fabric of this burgeoning industry. You will deal with leaders from all walks of life and will develop networks of stakeholders from government, legal and industry backgrounds, in the UK as well as overseas.
