We are the UK's aviation and aerospace regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Role

As the aviation industry regulator, the CAA has a duty to maintain a high standard of safety in the provision of air traffic services, developing air traffic management (ATM) requirements that are both effective and reflect the ever-evolving technological landscape. This is never truer than today as we begin to implement the Airspace Modernisation Strategy (AMS).

As an ATM safety specialist, you will focus on ATM safety regulation and be responsible for key aspects relating to the safety of these evolving requirements.  These include:

  • Employing safety risk analysis methodologies to support the development and collation of safety and assurance evidence to demonstrate that changes to ATM requirements introduced by the CAA are acceptably safe
  • Taking responsibility for the human factors and safety management system requirements for air traffic services providers detailed within UK Reg (EU) 2017/373 Annex IV, ensuring that they continue to reflect good practise and take note of developments from ICAO and other international bodies

About You

  • Have knowledge and experience of safety management systems and human factors in an ATM context.  Knowledge of the Specific Operating Risk Assessment (SORA) model is desirable
  • You will hold, as a minimum, a Level 6 (in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) or Level 9 (in Scotland) qualification in a related field, or be able to demonstrate relevant industrial experience
  • Be able to work on your own initiative with minimal guidance and have high levels of commitment, reliability, and flexibility, whilst being a great teammate
  • Be able to communicate difficult technical and/or operational concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Be able to effectively analyse, prioritise and utilise intelligence and information from a wide range of sources, and be able to communicate and develop positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders

Additional Information

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role this will need to be 3 years.

If you do not meet these requirements, we may not be able to accept your application.
