The CAA is the UK's aviation regulator, responsible for keeping passengers and the general public safe. Recognised as a world leader in our field, we are at the cutting edge of the exciting and ever-changing aviation environment. Never standing still, our work includes diverse activities from driving world-class safety standards, through minimising the environmental impact of aviation on local communities to the ATOL holiday financial protection scheme.

Thanks to the efforts of our organisation and our people, consumers have choice, value for money and protection when they fly. The CAA provides a rich variety of career opportunities to match the diversity of our work across aviation and non-aviation-based roles; from software development to HR, finance to air safety. Do you want to be part of this team to help us deliver our vision and be a part of something great?

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an Airworthiness Surveyor to lead the Performance Based Regulatory Oversight of approved airworthiness organisations and individuals. You will deliver outcome focussed oversight that applies Performance Based Oversight principles and meets statutory compliance obligations. You will build relationships with and influence Industry Accountable Managers and Senior Post Holders to continually improve safety performance, risk and compliance.

You may carry out project work or deliver training as the Airworthiness technical expert through the CAA's consultancy arm, CAAi.

You will collaborate and work flexibly to support the work of colleagues within Airworthiness and other areas of the CAA.

You will need to be able to regularly travel across the UK and occasionally overseas.

About you

  • You will hold an EASA Part-66 B1 or B2 License endorsed for modern complex aircraft, a HNC, HND, an appropriate engineering degree or have extensive equivalent industry experience as an Accountable Manager or Post Holder in Part M, Production and/or Maintenance.
  • We are looking for a good communicator with the ability to evaluate, analyse and ensure compliance against safety objectives whilst remaining flexible and proportional in your approach.
  • You need a good knowledge of regulatory rules coupled with personal attributes to engage and be influential within the CAA and with industry. Given the level of influencing and negotiation that the role requires, management experience would be a distinct advantage.
  • You should be familiar with regulatory requirements such as the Air Navigation Order, BCARs, EASA Regulations and advisory material.
  • Your experience of Quality Management Systems will be matched by a good grasp of IT and Safety Management Systems used within aviation.

What can we offer you?

Wherever possible, we offer flexible and variable working hours to help our people effectively manage all areas of their lives. We are an equal opportunity employer and actively encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds. As a member of the Disability Confident scheme, applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a role with us will be guaranteed an interview.  We use fair and inclusive selection approaches to hire the best person for the job based on merit alone.  If you require an adjustment for any reason, please let us know.

We offer a range of fantastic benefits such as flexible working arrangements, free onsite gym, 28 days annual leave, a competitive pension scheme and much more.
