CAA International Limited (CAAi) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) and a registered Social Enterprise. As the UK CAA’s technical cooperation arm, CAAi aims to raise aviation standards and support the socio-economic benefits of air transport globally.

What Will You Be Doing?

 

You will be responsible for developing new business, bid management and proposal writing across the range of CAAi Advisory, Training and Examinations service lines. You will lead on account management of key clients and stakeholders.

 

Other responsibilities include supporting the strategic development and profitability of the CAAi portfolio. You may also take on some Project Management responsibility aligned to our overall purpose and vision of the CAAi portfolio and support the project management of medium sized UK and International projects.

 

As a manager, you will matrix manage a small team of people through opportunities and projects.

 

Your office base will be near Gatwick, however, there may be occasional trips to our central Canary Wharf office, within the UK and overseas to promote our business and visit our clients.

 

Core Accountabilities Include:

 

  • Business development, identifying opportunities, bringing in new business, expanding our current portfolio
  • Preparing client proposals and supporting the review and preparation of bids and tenders in line with our growing portfolio and business plan
  • Establishing and maintaining client relationships through our account management structure
  • Internal and external stakeholder management across various management levels, acting as the CAAi focal point
  • Responsible for negotiating new contracts, retaining, and expanding existing client contracts
  • Supporting the development of new products and services, including preparation of business cases
  • Motivating multidisciplinary teams to deliver service excellence
  • Responsible for providing support, coaching, and mentoring to other colleagues across the team
  • Leading client and/or partner facing meetings including presentations as required
  • You may be responsible for managing the successful delivery of small to medium sized international (and occasionally national) projects with accountability for all elements of the project life cycle to include time, cost, quality, and effective reporting.
  • Completing tasks in compliance with Quality Management System and sign-off.
  • Leading and championing continuous improvement through quality management and feedback mechanisms to maximise efficiency and effectiveness of CAAi and how it engages with other departments across the UK CAA.

 

Essential Criteria

 

To be considered for the role you will need to have:

 

  • Demonstratable business development experience in aviation, specialist technical consultancy or in a relevant sector.
  • Strong commercial acumen with bid management experience including leading and drafting proposals (Technical, Financial and Admin).
  • Experience in account management and stakeholder engagement at all levels of seniority.
  • Confident with managing multiple tasks and projects at the same time, excellent planning and organisation skills with experience of working to deadlines.
  • Commercial judgement and a broad understanding of the international aviation community
  • Self-starter and effective problem solver, with a solution focused and flexible approach to meet the demands of the business.
  • Collaborative person, able to work in a team environment, but equally capable of working autonomously.
  • Graduate (or equivalent) or relevant industry experience.

 

Desirable Criteria

 

  • Ideally you have experience of working in aviation or a relevant sector.
  • Good understanding of risk management principles and contingency planning.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment and an awareness and appreciation of working with international clients.
  • Excellent IT skills, specifically in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience of working with project management methodologies, possibly you may have a formal project management qualification such as APM, Prince2, AGILE
  • Desirable experience in managing a range of multidisciplinary projects, and a good understanding of practical project management delivery including financial management. Preference in an international and commercial environment.
  • People management experience and ability to lead and motivate multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ideally have experience with a Customer Relationship Management tool
  • Desirable knowledge of foreign language(s).

 

Selection Process

 

Following your application, we will carry out a short-listing exercise where we will assess your application against the requirements of the role.

If you are successful at this stage, you will be invited to a first stage interview.

We will then invite you to a competency interview. Ahead of the interview, we will ask you to prepare a presentation on a set topic.

Additional Information

 

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
