The Role
As part of the People Services team, the People Consultant provides a dedicated and proactive service to our people managers advising on a broad range of people related activity across the organisation. This includes coaching and advising managers and management teams on informal and formal employee relations issues as well as providing guidance on matters relating to reward, recruitment, learning and talent management. A key element of the role is to develop and deliver targeted training interventions to increase manager capability.
Working closely with colleagues across People and Culture, the role will also work on key projects and initiatives which align to group people plans and our CAA people strategy.
Core Accountabilities
- Establish trusted relationships with people managers providing expert and commercially sound people advice, and guiding them in the evaluation of options, risks, and outcomes.
- Provide coaching and support to people managers with complex employee cases such as performance management, absence management, disciplinary and grievance matters. This includes leading on formal procedures liaising with experts both internal and external as appropriate where specialist advice is required.
- Coach and mentor People Services Advisors.
- Work with the people partnering team on the implementation of change and restructuring.
- Analyse people metrics highlighting any trends and suggesting strategic people interventions.
- Attend management meetings and highlight any trends to the people partnering team.
- Provide constructive challenge and support to people managers on matters relating to job evaluation, pay and benchmarking.
- Support managers with the evaluation of current capabilities in their team and work with them to identify any necessary learning interventions.
- Work with the people partnering team on talent reviews and succession planning discussions providing challenge and support to management teams.
- Work with colleagues across People and Culture team on the development and roll-out of programmes and initiatives aligned to group people plans and the CAA people strategy.
- Develop and facilitate delivery of training, guidance material and other interventions for people managers to enhance capability in line with CAA people strategy.
- Identify opportunities to continuously improve policies and processes to ensure an effective and consistent service for CAA people managers.
- Lead on continuous improvement projects in the People Services Team.
About You
Essential
- Proven experience in a HR generalist or Employee Relations role with a track record of building trusted working relationships with people managers and leaders at all levels.
- Excellent knowledge of UK employment law with experience of applying this to complex ER cases.
- Continuous improvement mindset with some experience of project management
- Proactive approach: takes ownership for supporting people managers with their case from start to finish.
- Be outcome focused and be able to drive timely conclusions.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to coach, challenge, and influence at all levels.
- Able to analyse data and share insights in a way that is easy to understand.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build collaborative and effective working relationships from day one.
Desirable
- Previous experience in job sizing.
- Experience in organisational change management and restructuring.
- Minimum CIPD level 5 qualified.
- Adaptable, flexible, and able to apply judgement when dealing with complex cases.
- Demonstrate understanding of operating in a commercial environment.
- Demonstrate logical and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
