We are the UK's aviation regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Role

The aviation landscape is in a state of constant change and development. To this end, the policy used to provide oversight and regulate the industry must be continuously crafted, reviewed and updated to stay relevant and ensure safety. It is the CAA’s responsibility to make sure that policy is not only effective but is produced in line with our core values and behaviours (Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, Clarity, Learning and Drive).

As a Policy Specialist it would be your role to design and develop, new and existing, policy through the application of specialist knowledge and experience. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that this policy, not only propagates safe industrial practice but also, meets the needs of the CAA and its associates. Functionally, this means that all policy should be built using SMART principals, should adhere to CAA regulatory and management systems, is compliant with national and international regulations and reflects the CAAs values and behaviours.

As well as this, the role works with a wide range of internal and external partners. As part of this duty, you will regularly interact with and chair policy review sessions. These sessions allow the CAA to share knowledge and best practice solutions amongst ourselves. This is done with the aim of creating an open, engaging and ever improving policy development environment.

If you specialise in the development of policy or are someone who is looking to put a wealth of aviation knowledge to good use, then this is an outstanding role to take on.

About You

  • Possess a deep and proven understanding of technical aviation subject matter expertise particularly in an Airworthiness context
  • Are an experienced aviation professional, ideally supported by relevant qualifications or certifications
  • Demonstrable knowledge of national and international legislation and regulatory frameworks (EASA, ICAO, FAA etc) as well as the bodies that set the standards (BSi, LAA, CEN etc)
  • Strong comprehension of one or all of the following topics, performance-based oversight, safety management systems, Risk Assessments or Project Management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, who is used to working and interacting with all levels of business
  • A flexible, open and adaptable mind set

What Can We Offer You?

This role sits at the very core of aviation in the UK, its work will alter UK law and will see you interact with the highest levels of government, nationally and internationally. It sits on the cutting edge of industry developments and has a hand in helping to define the strategic direction of the CAAs policy. If you are someone who takes safety seriously, can work in a collaborative environment and who is looking to really contribute to something then this is an excellent opportunity to do just that.
