The Role

As the Safety Performance & Risk Principal it will be your role to further develop and embed the Performance Based Regulation System across the CAA. This role will contribute to continued enhancements of the PBR tools and systems which support Risk Based Oversight (RBO) and the Regulatory Safety Management System (RSMS) inclusive of all processes and systems involved in the assessment and solution of aviation safety risks. In this ever-evolving field of study it is crucial that we identify new or emerging hazards and risks, and, in partnership with colleagues across the CAA and industry, continuously develop new best practice solutions. These assessments form a critical element of ensuring a safe experience for anyone boarding an aircraft, not just in the UK but across the globe.

This position will act as a consultant and trainer, developing key insights and transforming them into meaningful process, cultural and procedural improvements. Helping to embed safety culture will require you to embody the CAA’s PBR tool set. With that said, the systems and tool sets are not fixed, and we’re looking for someone who can bring their own perspective to help us achieve best in class solutions.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do at the CAA and your role as the Safety Performance & Risk Principal is key to the proliferation of safety-based decision-making in our industry. Aviation services impact millions and ensuring that our stakeholders have the tools and framework they need to carry out their assessments is vital. To that end, you will be pivotal in the delivery of cultural, process and any procedural changes required to enable the embedding of the CAA’s safety risk and performance-based regulation. Additionally, you will be responsible, through control-based risk assessment methodology, for helping to build a library of risk assessment and training content.
