The Role

 

We have an exciting new opportunity for an Analyst to join our International Group division. The Environmental Research and Consultancy Department is the CAA’s environmental centre of excellence. Our primary focus is to support the UK Department for Transport providing technical advice on all aspects of aviation noise, including airport noise modelling and monitoring, noise policy development, and research about the health effects of aircraft noise. We also support industry, community and other government stakeholders in all matters relating to aircraft noise, and increasingly in aviation emissions.

 

The role will involve analysing aircraft noise, greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental data to provide information for use by government clients in the development of public policy relating to the environmental impacts of aviation, and by commercial clients for the purposes of aviation noise and wider environmental management.

 

Core Accountabilities

 

  • Undertake accurate, methodical, and well-documented numerical and textual analysis using a range of platforms and tools in the field of aviation noise, CO2 emissions and other environmental impacts
  • Produce written and numerical outputs, according to the CAA’s brand and drafting guidance
  • Actively develop knowledge of, and capability to use, acoustics and environmental impact principles, practices, and equipment
  • Actively contribute to the ongoing modernisation of The Environmental Research and Consultancy Department’s (ERCD) systems, tools, and practices, with a view to continually raising efficiency and effectiveness (including quality)
  • Engage with colleagues in CAA outside ERCD as necessary, and with group-wide and organisation-wide activities and initiatives
  • Exhibit CAA’s values, including effective professional/personal development of self/colleagues

 

About You

 

To be considered for the role you must have a:

 

  • Technical understanding in the field of environmental acoustics is essential; associate or corporate membership of the Institute of Acoustics and knowledge of wider aviation environmental management and policy would be desirable
  • Or at least three years’ relevant professional experience working in technical analysis of aviation environmental impacts and mitigation would be desirable
  • Minimum of Graduate level educated or equivalent experience and Mathematics to A-level standard is essential; Physics to A-level standard and/or an undergraduate degree in environmental acoustics would be desirable
  • Analytical and data management skills, with knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Excel and Access are essential; and experience of using SQL databases would be desirable
  • Coding skills are essential, preferably with experience in using VBA, C# and Python
  • Knowledge and practical experience of aviation environmental noise policy and management would be desirable
  • Practical experience of working collaboratively with others across internal and external multi-disciplinary groups

Additional Information
 

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
